LOL interesting thought, but heres something to consider. I find it hypocritical how people accept Brian Griffin to have relations with HUMAN women but people threw a bitchfit when Sonic was involved with Princess Elise. Go even further back there was Roger Rabbit with Jessica, Droopy Dog and Red Hot Riding Hood.
Totally agreed. Not to mention, Sonic ORIGINALLY had a human girlfriend when he was being conceived and he doesn't even know Elise anymore.
What gets me is that all of those examples portray a male, cartoon animal loving a female human. I've never seen a cartoon animal female fall in love with a human male in all my years of watching tv and movies and reading books and comics and stuff like that. It's kinda bizarre if you think about it.
Actually, there was this obscure Disney special that aired in the late 80s involving Minnie Mouse and Anthony Edwards (of Revenge of Nerds). I think the premise was about her trying to make him less of a geek but she eventually falls in love with him. It was released right after Roger Rabbit since it uses live action crossed over to the toonworld setting.

Is Minnie cheating on Mickey?

But, I suppose to answer the question: Coming to websites like this does not make you a furry; you are only a furry when you become a weirdo that desperately needs the world to know your identity crises with magical wolves and what have you.

Or if they are people that have a crisis of needing to wear animal costumes and live like that in order to feel comfortable with themselves.
John Roberts wrote: I think they can be (or are) an accepted subculture - as funny as I think it is to be a referred to as a subculture. What hurts it though, like some gays that feel the need to put on the over-the-top gayness act, or the Goths that go for the extreme look-at-am-I'm-a-goth attitude, is some furries have to go for the same sort of stupid theatricals to define themselves. It's all rather silly, really. Some tools just can't enjoy themselves without the whole world knowing about it.
Louis the Hedgehog wrote:It's someone who has an interest in in anthromorphic characters, nothing more and nothing less. And don't let anyone tell you it's a sexual fetish. Sure, there may be a lot of fetishes attached to our fandom, but if that makes us a sexual fandom, EVERY fandom is a sexual fandom. And as for the whole "sex in fursuits" thing, keep this in mind. Only 15% of them even wear these things. They cost thousands of dollars, have to be hand washed, it is really easy to overheat while wearing one, and most people won't allow any open beverages near the suits. Why would anyone want to perform such actions while wearing these suits?
And there's so much misinformation about us. That ED article, that CSI episode, the Jimmy Kimmel Show, The Young Turks, that Wired article, and various news organizations are spreading so many stereotypes about us. As a result, furries have lost their jobs, have been rejected from their friends and family, and a few have been assaulted. Haven't we had enough? And we keep getting a lot of citicizsm for comparing our haters to Jim Crow advocates, yet they have no problem with advocating that we be treated as sub-human, and worse! It's stupid like proving you're not a terrorist by blowing up an embasy.
I mean, here we have a group of people that when they are told that "Harry Potter promotes witchcraft" they just roll their eyes and walk away. And yet the instant anyone mentions furries they get all "break out the torches pitchforks and witch torturing equipment! We got heathens to kill!!!" I kid you not.
I thought this was the land of the free. And speaking of which, the haters keep claiming that we furries can't stand freedom of speech yet have no problem going on hacking campaigns, false flagging campaigns, phishing campaigns, distributing personal information, harassing and threatening anyone who disagrees with them, and illegally filing DMCA's. Yet again showing how much their ideology is founded on a double standard.
