When AmyRose82 approached me with her idea for a "mapping Mobius" project, we both suspected from the start that—in a sense—she was attempting the impossible. It seemed unlikely that SEGA or Sonic's writers would have fleshed out geographic details for the show, so whatever Amy came up with would be trying to determine after-the-fact something that, well... had never actually been determined to begin with. When we approached writer Ben Hurst about the project, he confirmed our suspicions:

"As for mapping - we were running at such a fast pace, we had no time to devote to anything like that. We just named locations and the artists filled them in. Robotropolis probably wasn't very close to the Great Forest and Knothole - and Knothole had farms and other features, but we never really had a specific layout in mind. There are some wide shots throughout the series that give little hints of location proximity, but we never saw any importance in mapping them out."

With that said, the maps featured here were composited through meticulous research and notetaking over repeat viewings of the entire series. Amy spent several months putting together a map consistent with the locations featured in Sonic. So while there is no true "official map of Mobius," if there were one, you can bet it probably wouldn't be too far from what you see here. In fact, the shape and layout of the land masses are taken directly from "Harmonic Sonic," the only episode of Sonic in which a view of planet Mobius is shown from space, albeit very briefly.
