(WRITERS DRAFT SCRIPT)

ACT I
FADE IN:
EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
LOW DRAMATIC UP ANGLE reveals the enormity of the DOOMSDAY MACHINE
that is now complete...a MASSIVE, ominous hulk of evil technology
ablaze with lights.

WIDER - PANNING
The Machine looms over the 2-square mile complex like a mountain,
surrounded by a HIGH, SECURITY WALL. PAN TO TEMPORARY HQ nearby,
then move up to a bank of windows through which we see ROBOTNIK
standing, hands clasped behind him, gazing admiringly out at the
Machine, SNIVELY at his side.
INT. TEMPORARY HQ - NIGHT

ROBOTNIK
An object of beauty, don't you agree, Snively?

SNIVELY
Very lovely. Sir,

ROBOTNIK
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, Snively, and within twenty-four hours,
I will control every inch of this planet.(pause) That is beauty.

ROBOTNIK
holds up a REMOTE, points it at the Machine.

ROBOTNIK (CONT)
The dream begins.
He pushes a button. A red light blinks on.


EXT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - VARIOUS ANGLES - NIGHT
ENGINES ROAR TO LIFE in SEQUENCE, SMOKE BILLOWING from EXHAUST
VENTS. The ground SHAKING from their power. Robotnik smiles as
the entire building atop which he stands SHAKES VIOLENTLY.
He smiles.

ROBOTNIK
Beautiful music, Snively.

SNIVELY
Beautiful, sir.

From the BASE, the MACHINE ENGINE BEAMS shoot out in all directions
and... MASSIVE TUBES telescope from the MACHINE, striking the ground
and boring straight down.

WIPE TO:
EXT. EDGE OF KNOTHOLE MEADOW - NIGHT
A full MOON gives the forest an eerie glow and backlights the
LOOKOUT POST high in a TREE where ANTOINE yawns and "bobs",
fighting sleep, while SONIC peers through HI-TECH BINOCULARS.

ANTOINE
(big yawn)

SONIC
slowly scans with the binoculars.

SONIC
Sure is quiet out there. Ant.

ANTOINE (OS)
(BIG SNORE)

Sonic snaps a look at Antoine leaning
back against the tree, mouth agape.

Sonic leans INTO SHOT.

SONIC
(loud)
Yo, Ant!

ANTOINE
Ahhhhhhhhh!

He jumps straight up, does a half-gainer and lands on his butt.

ANTOINE (CONT)
(rubs his head)
Why are you screamings too loud?

SONIC
We’re supposed to be on watch. Ant,
not takin’ the ol’ nap. Now keep
your eyes open.

Antoine widens his eyes.

ANTOINE
My eyes are open.

He picks up the binoculars, looks through the wrong end.

ANTOINE
Nothing ever happens in
Knotholes...

SONIC
Get a clue. Ant... Robotnik’s
Doomsday Machine is gonna be
cranking serious real soon.

ANTOINE
Hah... and hah again. That stupid
machine is not searings me.

HUGE UP/DOWN CAMERA SHAKE tumbles Antoine right over the safety
rail and he plummets O.S. Sonic reacts, grabbing the railing to
steady himself.

ANTOINE (CONT)
(descending
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

CAMERA SHAKE CONTINUES as Sonic RACES DOWN TRUNK, passing Antoine,
who has hands over eyes, still YELLING.

SONIC
hits the ground, SKIDS to a stop and looks up
.
SONIC sees Antoine falling, still some distance away.

BACK TO SHOT
Sonic taps his foot, checks his watch, then looks up and catches
Antoine, hands still over his eyes.

ANTOINE
(still screaming)

Sonic stares at him disgusted.


SONIC
Yo, Ant.
(high shrill scream)
ANT! !

Disgusted, Sonic drops Antoine on his butt. Antoine's eyes fly
open, he looks up at Sonic.

ANTOINE
Are you the angels?

Sonic rolls his eyes, drops Antoine on his butt.

ANTOINE
I am living?
(smiles)
Oui! Oui! I am not squished like
a rug. Oh, thank goodness to me.

He kisses his own hand, wrist and on up the arm.

ANTOINE
I loves you. I loves you too much.

WIDER
BIG CAMERA SHAKE as the GROUND beneath them CRACKS open. Sonic
grabs Antoine (still kissing himself) and streaks OUT OF SHOT as a
HUGE TUBE thrusts up OUT OF THE GROUND and a DOOMSDAY POD emerges.
Sonic SKIDS up nearby. They both stare at the POD.

SONIC
It's a Doomsday pod.

It sits quietly for a beat, then suddenly DESTRUCTION BEAMS shoot
out, withering the grass around it.

WIDE - THE MEADOW
As the ground trembles and actually glows, it blackens, then the
ground slowly dissolves into a TOXIC CESSPOOL.

CUT TO:
EXT. KNOTHOLE BRIDGE - NIGHT
The WARNING BELL glints in the moonlight. Sonic SKIDS INTO SHOT, a
trembling Antoine clinging behind him.

SONIC
Sound the alarm. Ant.

ANTOINE
Oui, Oui.

Sonic BLASTS OFF as ANTOINE starts RINGING the bell.

CUT TO:
EXT. ROTOR'S WORKSHOP - NIGHT
BELL CLANGING in distance. Rotor hustles out, rubbing his eyes as
Sonic SKIDS INTO SHOT.

ROTOR
Sonic, what up...

SONIC
(breathless)
Doomsday Pods in the meadow,
killing everything in sight.

ROTOR
But the reports said next week...

SONIC
(interrupts)
Rote, I need that metal-eatin’
stuff mondo pronto!

Rotor and Sonic run inside. CRANE UP TO REVEAL the Doomsday Pod
scorching a swath of destruction straight for the huts, an ENORMOUS
TREE in its path. BASE OF TREE LIGHT BEAMS travel beneath the tree, engulfing its roots. The SOIL
CHURNS as the roots VAPORIZE. LOUD CREAKING SOUND as the tree
'starts to FALL.

INT. ROTOR'S WORKSHOP - NIGHT
Sonic reacts to the CREAKING sound as Rotor pulls a CRATE off a
shelf. Sonic blasts to the door, reacts, then streaks back as
Rotor removes three baseball-sized PLASTIC CAPSULES from straw packing.

SONIC
Gotta jam. Rote!

Sonic grabs Rotor and they blast for the door.

EXT. ROTOR'S WORKSHOP - NIGHT
Sonic and Rotor ROAR out the door just as the ENORMOUS TREE SMASHES
the workshop flat. Rotor looks back, wide-eyed as Sonic SKIDS up.

ROTOR
My workshop! Oh no!


SONIC
Rote, gimme one of those metal-
Eatin’ things!

Rotor hands Sonic a capsule. He BLASTS OFF

THE POD surges forward, headed for the huts, leaving a WIDE PATH OF GLOWING
DESTRUCTION behind it. PAN TO SONIC as he SKIDS up in front of the
pod, cocks his arm...

SONIC (CONT)
Hope this works.

FOLLOW CAPSULE as Sonic hurls it. A DIRECT HIT and the POD
VAPORIZES in a cloud of GREEN SMOKE.

WIPE TO:
EXT. KNOTHOLE - MEETING AREA - NIGHT
CLOSE ON JET DOVE as it streaks away.

SALLY
...the other Freedom Fighter
groups have been on alert for
weeks.

WIDER
SALLY inserts a message in a tiny compartment on one of two JET
DOVES sitting on the table. Sonic paces nearby.

SALLY (CONT)
It won't take long for them to get here...

Sally hits a button on a REMOTE. The Jet Doves' tiny jets IGNITE
and they STREAK OFF. Sonic stops pacing, stops beside Sally as they
look after the doves.

SONIC
Won’t take long for those Pods to
wipe everything out, either.
(pause)
Any idea how many pods Robutt-nik
can launch, Sal?

Sally pulls Nicole from her vest.

SALLY
Nicole, show us the Doomsday Machine.

NICOLE
Accessing, Sally.

HOLOGRAM
of the DOOMSDAY MACHINE appears above Nicole.

SALLY (OS)
Internal schematic. Pod launch
area, please, Nicole.

HOLOGRAM CHANGES to LINE DRAWING of the POD LAUNCHING AREA.

SALLY (CONT) (OS)
Capabilities, please, Nicole.

LINE DRAWING ANIMATES, showing PODS being released.

SALLY
points at the HOLOGRAM.

SALLY (CONT)
I checked the schematics we took
from Robotnik and the best I can
calculate...

CUT TO:
EXT. GREAT UNKNOWN - NIGHT
Rock formations dot landscape. A POD advances, leaving a wake of
destruction.

SALLY (VO-CONT)
...the Doomsday Machine can release
hundreds of pods...

SONIC (VO)
(interrupts)
Hundreds?

CUT TO:
EXT. BADLANDS - NIGHT
Carved ROCK STATUES cast shadows in the moonlight. A POD bumps
into a statue. White light plays under the statue as the ground
BUBBLES and the statue tilts, MELTING.

SALLY (VO)
Every hour. The tunnels reach all
over the planet.

CUT TO:
EXT. GREAT SWAMP - NIGHT
Gloomy, forbidding with moss-draped trees. A POD cuts through the
swamp, toppling trees.

SONIC (VO)
Oh, man. So there's already
hundreds out there?

SALLY (VO)
At least.

WHITE LIGHT turning the swamp to BUBBLING OOZE.

SONIC (VO)
We gotta move fast.

FAST DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. KNOTHOLE MEETING PLACE - NIGHT
CLOSE ON TORCH, then PULL OUT TO REVEAL a meeting of the Freedom
Fighter leaders watching a HOLOGRAM of the DOOMSDAY SITE. ARI the
RAM, LUPE the WOLF, POLLO the RHINO, DIRK the BEAR, Sally and
Sonic. BELOW, in the BG, GROUPS OF FREEDOM FIGHTERS assembled
around campfires. Sally points at the TEMPORARY COMMAND CENTER in
the Doomsday Site hologram.

SALLY
If most of our forces strike here...

ANTOINE (OS)
(breathless)
Mah Princess! Halt the pressings!

Antoine and Tails run INTO SHOT. Antoine is holding INFRA RED
RECON-LIKE AERIAL PHOTOS.

SONIC
takes the pictures. Ari and Sally look over his shoulder.

SONIC
Definitely not cool.

PHOTO
Shows a SOLID LINE of Swat-Bots and Hover-Units arrayed around the
perimeter of the Doomsday Site. More Hover-Units on patrol above.

ARI (OS)
Assault force won't work. Princess.
We'd never get past the security.

SALLY
flips a switch on Nicole. The HOLOGRAM disappears. She looks at
the others, determined.

SALLY
Then we switch to plan "B".

CUT TO:
EXT. ROBOTROPOLIS REFINERY - NIGHT
PIPES running everywhere, huge TANKS and HOVER-TANKERS (like the
ones we saw in "Spyhog") in line to be filled. PAN TO CONTROL
PLATFORM above tankers. Two TECH-BOTS stand on platform, one
motionless with its back turned, the other supervises the automated
fueling procedure.

A TANKER
pulls up. TECH-BOT #1 pushes a button on console and a HOSE lowers
INTO SHOT, clamps to the top. BIG WHOOSH as the HOSE EXPANDS and
tanker fills. Red light BLINKS and we hear a BEEPING SOUND that
signifies tanker is full. HOSE DISCONNECTS and the next tanker
quickly pulls up.

TECH- BOT #1
pushes two buttons and lowering hose, stops. PUSH IN ON "TECH-
BOT^" FACE. Through the EYE-SLITS, we see it's UNCLE CHUCK.

UNCLE CHUCK
throws small capsule at EMPTY TANKER, marking it with a BROWN
SMEAR. He punches another button and tanker moves through without
being filled. Chuck turns to MOTIONLESS TECH-BOT, flips a switch,
then walks OS as Tech-Bot #2 comes to life and turns back to
control console. As next tanker begins the "fueling" sequence...

WIPE TO:
EXT. SKY HIGH ABOVE DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
Dulcy flies through heavy cloud cover. Ari and Lupe, both wearing
parachute packs, ride on her back along with a stack of COSTUMED
DUMMIES.

ARI
(yells over wind)
Are we close, Dulcy?

DULCY
(yells back)
We should be. I'l1 check.

(takes deep breath)
DULCY
As she EXHALES and BLOWS a small hole in the clouds, revealing
they're coming up on the Doomsday Site.

DULCY (OS) (CONT)
There it is. Get ready.

WIDER
TO INCLUDE FREEDOM FIGHTER7S CAPTURED HOVER-UNIT with Polio and
Dirk visible in the cockpit. Ari looks behind him and points down.
Polio and Dirk give him a "THUMBS UP".

EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
Hover-Units patrol above the site, criss-crossing with their
SEARCHLIGHTS, while Swat-Bots patrol below. A searchlight beam
illuminates...

THE FUEL CONVOY
pulling into UNFUELING DEPOT near the Doomsday Machine. PUSH IN as
HOSE clamps onto LEAD TANKER, DRAINS FUEL. PAN TO TANKER with the
BROWN SMEAR.

BOTTOM OF TANKER
HATCH CREAKS OPEN and Sonic drops into shadows beneath it. He
looks around.

SONIC'S POV
The Doomsday SECURITY WALL is 50 yards away across open ground,
criss-crossed with MOVING SPOTLIGHTS.

SONIC
looks up at hatch and signals. Sally and Bunnie jump down,
followed by Antoine, who stumbles and falls on his ass.

ANTOINE
(yelp-quickly muffled)
As Bunnie clamps a hand over his mouth. Sally looks at her watch.

SALLY
(whispers)
Fifteen seconds...

LUPE
checks her watch.

LUPE
We’re right on schedule. Ten
seconds...

INT. HOVER-CRAFT - MOVING
Looking out through windscreen toward Dulcy, Ari and Lupe. Ari
looks back, holds up five fingers.

ARI AND LUPE
toss dummies overboard. FOLLOW DUMMIES as parachutes POP open and
they FLOAT DOWN, disappearing into the CLOUDS.

HOVER-UNIT
hatch opens and Dirk tosses more parachute-equipped DUMMIES
overboard.

CUT TO:
EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
ALARMS SCREECH as PARACHUTING FIGURES drop OUT OF CLOUDS toward the
site. Hover-Unit spotlights scan the skies, then QUICK-PAN to...

SONIC
beneath the fuel tanker.

SONIC
(low)
Let's do it.
He zips toward the wall to yards away, the others follow, but...

ANTOINE
suddenly TRIPS on his own feet and hits the ground. He grabs his
ankle...

ANTOINE
(yelp-suddenly muffled)
As Sonic ZIPS INTO SHOT, clamps a hand over his mouth and zips
Antoine OUT OF SHOT.

CUT TO:
INT. ROBOTNIK'S TEMP COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
Robotnik watches monitors filled with PARACHUTING FIGURES.

ROBOTNIK
Ah, the guests have arrived...
Robotnik pushes a button. MONITOR ZOOMS IN on Hovering Swat-Bot as
it plucks a DUMMY from the air.

ROBOTNIK (CONT)
A dummy diversion. How appropriate. But we can't make it
too easy, Snively. Alert the ground forces.

CUT TO:
EXT. SECURITY WALL NEAR DOOMSDAY MACHINE - NIGHT
A searchlight beam sweeps past, then Sonic zips over the wall with
Antoine in tow, rolls down the opposite side and SKIDS to a stop
beside Sally and Bunnie waiting in the shallows of the Doomsday
Machine.

SALLY
looks at a SMALL HOLOGRAM projected by Nicole (we can't make out
what it is). The HOLOGRAM FADES as Sally points toward the
Doomsday Machine.

SALLY
That's the spot.

SONIC
pulls a METAL-EATING LIQUID CAPSULE from his backpack.

SONIC
Get ready to jam...

He heaves the CAPSULE against the MACHINE and a GREEN CLOUD OF
SMOKE instantly forms. It quickly clears, revealing a HOLE. The
Freedom Fighters run inside as ALARMS SHRIEK and we...
FADE OUT

END ACT ONE

ACT II
FADE IN:
INT. TEMPORARY COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
ALARMS sound as the four FREEDOM FIGHTERS hurry into the Doomsday
Machine behind Sonic.

SNIVELY
Sir, they're inside the machine.
PULL OUT TO REVEAL we're watching the Freedom Fighters on a
monitor.

SNIVELY (CONT)
Shall I alert the forces?

ROBOTNIK
sits nearby in a smaller version of his "chair". He forms a peak
with his fingers and smiles.

ROBOTNIK
No, Snively. Let them explore.
Maybe they'll find my little surprise.

SNIVELY
turns away with a disgusted look.

SNIVELY
(mutters)
Your stupidity will ruin everything, you ugly boil.

ROBOTNIK
leans forward, eyes narrowing.

ROBOTNIK
What was that, Snively?

SNIVELY
turns with a nervous smile.

SNIVELY
Oh, I said, the Doomsday Machine's
are going to need more oil...Sir.

CUT TO:
EXT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - NIGHT
About half-way up the machine is a rounded ledge with windows
looking into the intricate machinery inside Ari and Lupe land on
the ledge. They POP LOOSE from their chutes and start to climb
upward when they're suddenly caught in a searchlight beam from a
Hover-Unit.

ROBOT-VOICE
Freeze, intruders. Hands behind your heads.

AIR AND LUPE
exchange a look, then do as they're told as we...

CUT TO:
INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - 1ST LEVEL - NIGHT
CAVERNOUS INTERIOR. The walls are a maze of HUGE PIPES with an
"Alien" look. Metal STAIRWAY leads to a door above. THREE TECH-
BOTS work at a CONTROL CONSOLE, pulling levers, pushing buttons.
Sonic streaks THROUGH SHOT behind the Tech-Bots. They turn and
look, but he's already gone. Tech-Bots turn back to panel as we
PAN TO...

SONIC
hiding beneath the stairway. He peers out.

SONIC
(low; to himself)
This is too easy. Wonder what the
round guy's got up his ol' sleeve?
(pause)
One way to find out.
He zips OS.

SALLY, BUNNIE, ANTOINE
wait behind a huge pipe. Sonic SKIDS INTO SHOT next to them.

SALLY
(whispers)
Anything?

SONIC
(whispers)
Couple Tech-Bots. No prob. (then, pointedly)
Long as Ant doesn't trip over anything.

BUNNIE
Like his feet.

ANTOINE
(too loud)
What is being wrong with my fee... Mmmpff!
Bunnie clamps a hand over his mouth.

BUNNIE
Put a sock in it, Antoine.

TECH-BOTS
busy at CONTROL PANEL. Sonic leads the others past them. Antoine
holds his own hand over his mouth.

STAIRWAY
They run up the stairs, reach a doorway at the top. Beyond is a
LONG, EMPTY PASSAGEWAY. Sonic motions the others to stay.

SONIC
(whispers)
Wait. I'll check it out.

INT PASSAGEWAY
Sonic steps inside. Nothing. He zips forward a little. Still
nothing. He turns back to others...

SONIC (CONT)
No prob! Let's...
He freezes as the LIGHTS suddenly DIM, then come back up.

MIDDLE OF PASSAGEWAY
TWO large ENERGY BALLS appear in the middle of the passageway,
pulsing with electricity. DEEP HUMMING sound comes from them.

SONIC
The BALLS are about 15 feet away. Sonic takes a tentative step
forward, then BOTH BALLS streak straight toward him.

SONIC
blasts to the side as the BALLS narrowly miss him, one singes his
butt. He jumps, grabbing his butt.

SONIC
Ow!
(he points)
Now you're gettin' me mad.

WIDER
As Sonic streaks up the passageway, the BALLS, CRACKLING WITH
ELECTRICITY, turn and follow. He ZIGS AND ZAGS, but the BALLS
doggedly pursue.

DOORWAY
Sally watches anxiously, Bunnie and Antoine behind her.

SALLY
Sonic! They're sensing your motion!

SONIC
dodges one BALL, then the other, but one GRAZES him as it goes by.
CRACKLING SOUND as ELECTRICITY CRACKLES on Sonic's shoulder. Sonic
SKIDS UP, holds stock-still. The BALLS hover on opposite sides
with that ominous HUMMING.

SONIC
Motion, huh?

He blasts toward far end of passageway. Both BALLS instantly
follow.

FOLLOWING SONIC
He slows until the BALLS are right on his butt. Tiny LIGHTNING
FLASHES crackle out, zapping his ass.

SONIC (CONT)
Ow! You already got me there!
Juice time.

END OF PASSAGEWAY
Sonic races straight toward the wall, barely keeping ahead of the
BALLS. At the last second, he accelerates and runs straight up
wall and onto the ceiling. Both BALLS SLAM into the wall and
DISAPPEAR in a FLASH OF LIGHT that FILLS SHOT. LIGHT FADES,
revealing Sonic, FRIZZED OUT, vibrating, glowing slightly. Sally
RUNS INTO SHOT.

SALLY
Sonic, are you all right?

SONIC
(electrical voice effect)
Now I know how a lightbulb feels.

CUT TO:
EXT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - NIGHT
Dirk and Polio are atop the Doomsday Machine, peering down through
the SKYLIGHT. THEIR POV We see the GLASS-DOMED MASSIVE BRAIN
below, pulsating.

BACK TO SHOT
as they pull ropes with GRAPPLING HOOKS from their packs. They set
the hooks and lower the ropes. Polio starts to RAPPEL down when
suddenly, they're caught in the GLARE of BRIGHT SPOTLIGHTS.

WIDE
Three HOVER-UNITS train their searchlights on the hapless Freedom
Fighters from above as four SWAT-BOTS converge.

SWAT-BOT
Freeze, intruders. You are surrounded.

CUT TO:
INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - POD LAUNCH AREA - NIGHT
Dark, forbidding area, eerily-lit by the GLOW of a GIANT VAT of
BUBBLING LIQUID.

GIANT AUTOMATED CLAW
holds a POD SHELL (like an exo-skeleton, with complex equipment
attached to the inside of frame) and lowers it into the liquid. A
beat, then it raises, revealing a COMPLETED DOOMSDAY POD. FOLLOW
CLAW as it moves POD to a CONVEYOR-RAMP and releases it. CLAW
moves back OUT OF SHOT. FOLLOW POD as RAMP ACTIVATES and POD is
transported into a TUNNEL OPENING.

MASSIVE DOOR
(think artillery) SLAMS SHUT, sealing the tunnel. BIG MUFFLED
EXPLOSION. Door swings OPEN and the POD is gone. Another POD is
transported into tunnel opening. As the MASSIVE DOOR SLAMS SHUT,
ZIP-PAN to...

SONIC AND OTHERS
watching. (PROD NOTE: THIS SEQUENCE CONTINUES THROUGH SCENE).

SONIC
We gotta stop this.
Sally whips Nicole out of her vest.

SALLY
Switch to corn mode, Nicole.

NICOLE
Corn mode active. Scrambled channel open.

SALLY
holds Nicole like a radio, pushes a button.

SALLY
Group two, report.

WIDER - ALL FOUR
They wait, listening. No answer. Sally tries again.

SALLY
Group three, report.

CUT TO:
EXT. TEMP COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
Swat-Bots lead Polio and Dirk, both bound into the Command Center.

INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - POD LAUNCH AREA - NIGHT
Sonic, Bunnie and Antoine watch Sally.

NICOLE
No response. Sally.

BUNNIE
This sure doesn't look good...

ANTOINE
Perhaps they have been captivated.

SALLY
I think you're right, Antoine.
We're on our own.

SONIC
shakes his head.

SONIC
Wrong, Sal. I'm on my own.

SALLY
Sonic, you're not...

SONIC
(interrupts)
C'mon, Sal. The plan's blown. You gotta get outta here.

CUT TO:
INT. ROBOTNIK'S COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
Robotnik stands beside Snively, watching the Freedom Fighters on monitor.

SALLY (VO-VIA MONITOR - CONT)
And what will you do?

SONIC
What I do best. Wing it. You guys take a Pod out.

SNIVELY
looks at Robotnik.

SNIVELY
Sir, shall I seal the launch tunnel door?

ROBOTNIK
No, Snively. Let them go. By this

INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - POD LAUNCH AREA - NIGHT
Sonic and Sally run alongside a POD, moving down a CONVEYOR RAMP.
Bunnie and Antoine are already on the pod. Sally leaps up as
Bunnie opens the HATCH. Antoine and Bunnie jump inside. Sally
looks down at Sonic, still running alongside.

SALLY
Sonic, I want to help.

SONIC
This is Power Ring territory, Sal.
You'll just slow me down.
Bunnie nods.

BUNNIE
He's right. Sally-girl. C'mon.

SALLY
very somber, hands Nicole down to Sonic.

SALLY
You'll need Nicole. Good luck, Sonic.
She flashes "thumbs-up" to Sonic.

SONIC
Later.

POD
enters tunnel. Sally pulls the POD HATCH down and ENORMOUS DOOR
SLAMS. BIG MUFFLED EXPLOSION and door swings open. The POD is gone.

SONIC
holds Nicole up.

SONIC
You and me, babe. Show me some pictures.

NICOLE
No prob, fast guy. Comin' up.

Nicole generates a HOLOGRAM of the Doomsday Machine. It's a maze
of lines and curves. Sonic looks at it bewildered, scratches his head.

SONIC
Man that sure doesn't help.

A FLASHING ARROW appears, pointing at one of the POD LAUNCH AREAS.

NICOLE
You are here.

SONIC
Cool.

INT. COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
Snively reacts as he sees Nicole's HOLOGRAM of the Doomsday Machine
on the monitor.

SNIVELY
(frantic)
Sir! He has the master schematic!

Robotnik calmly nods.

ROBOTNIK
No matter, Snively. My "special
surprise" never appeared on any
schematic.

Robotnik touches a button on his belt. His ROCKET SHOES ROAR and
he lifts a few feet from the floor and hovers.

ROBOTNIK (CONT)
It was designed and built under my personal supervision.
Now it is time to take matters in hand.
Open the skylight, Snively.

SNIVELY
Yes, Sir.

Snively slaps a button on the console.

SKYLIGHT
opens. Robotnik flies UP AND OUT

CUT TO:
INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - "BRAIN ROOM" - NIGHT
PANNING perimeter of the CIRCULAR, SKYLIGHTED ROOM. We see HI-TECH
EQUIPMENT with FLASHING LIGHTS and BUBBLING TUBES interwoven into
the equipment. PAST a METAL DOOR, then CAMERA PANS to A HUGE
PULSATING BRAIN encased in a thick PLEXIGLASS CASING in the center
of room.

DOOR
slams open, revealing stairway as Sonic SKIDS IN, looks around suspiciously.

SONIC
Too easy. Round Guy is up to somethin'.

He shrugs off his backpack, pulls out FLAT HEAT CHARGES with
FLASHING RED LIGHTS.
VARIOUS ANGLES

SONIC (CONT)
Light-up time.
As Sonic blasts around the room, slapping the HEAT CHARGES onto
equipment where they stick in place.

ON BRAIN
As Sonic zips around it, placing HEAT CHARGES on the Plexiglass.
FOLLOW as he zips out the door, down the stairs and stops.

IN STAIRWAY
Sonic SKIDS IN, holds up Nicole.

SONIC (CONT)
Do it to it, Nicole.

NICOLE
Heat's on. Sonic.

RED GLARE from the doorway. Sonic shields his eyes.

SONIC
Whoa. Hot stuff.

VARIOUS ANGLES
inside "Brain Room" as HEAT CHARGES GLOW BRIGHT RED. Equipment
MELTS and BUBBLING TUBES CRACK, the liquid HISSING as it turns to STEAM.

ON BRAIN
As PLEXIGLASS surrounding the BRAIN turns BRIGHT RED, momentarily
obscuring our view.

IN STAIRWAY
Sonic still shielding his eyes against the glare. We can hear
plastic tubing and pipes CRACKING from the heat. The glare FADES.

Then quiet.
SONIC (CONT)
Adios, Doomsday Machine.
He blasts up the stairway.

IN BRAIN ROOM
As Sonic SKIDS IN, looks around, grins.

SONIC (CONT)
Cool.
HIS POV
The machinery is melted into SLAG. POV sweeps to BRAIN.
PLEXIGLASS surrounding it is unscathed and the BRAIN still THROBS.

SONIC
It's history.

SONIC
reacts, startled.

SONIC (CONT)
Hold on. Not cool.

We hear HISSING as Sonic reacts.

INSIDE BRAIN ENCLOSURE
A FLOOR-HATCH inside the Plexiglass enclosure HISSES OPEN and
Robotnik flies up INTO SHOT, holding a remote.

ROBOTNIK (ECHOING)
So, Hedgehog. How do you like my
new diamond-glass dome?

SONIC
glowers.

SONIC
It stinks, Robutt-nik.

ROBOTNIK
smiles.

ROBOTNIK (ECHOING)
In a strange way, I shall miss you,
Hedgehog. (pause) Ciao.
Robotnik triggers the remote.

VARIOUS ANGLES
As the walls surrounding the room SLAM DOWN INTO THE FLOOR,
revealing MASSIVE LASER PROJECTORS (THINK TV CAMERAS) around the
perimeter of the room.

WIDE
BROAD BEAMS OF LASER ENERGY strike the floor all around the room,
turning the METAL to MOLTEN SLAG. They sweep forward toward Sonic.
He has no escape.

ROBOTNIK (ECHOING)
Oh, the diamond glass reflects
laser beams. But I'm afraid
they're quite deadly... especially
to Hedgehogs...

as the beams sweep closer and closer to the wide-eyed Sonic, we...

ACT III
FADE IN:
INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - "BRAIN ROOM" - NIGHT
CONTINUE ACTION from Act II as LASER BEAMS move inexorably toward Sonic.

ROBOTNIK
smiles wickedly.

ROBOTNIK (ECHOING)
I've waited a long time for this,
Hedgehog. A long time.

SONIC
watches the beams inch closer, turning the METAL FLOOR to MOLTEN
SLAG as they come.

SONIC
Double-trouble time.
He whips TWO POWER RINGS from his backpack, one in each hand.
FLASH OF GOLDEN ENERGY as he SUPERSPINS just as the LASER BEAMS
STRIKE HIM.

ROBOTNIK
raises his arm in triumph.

ROBOTNIK
Yess! Too late. Hedgehog!

CLOSE ON SONIC
a spinning BLUR. The WHIRL OF GOLDEN ENERGY fight against the
LASER BEAMS. CLOUDS OF SMOKE POUR OFF.

SONIC
(desperate straining sounds)

WIDE
Sonic's spin speed INCREASES. Suddenly, the LASER BEAMS are
REFLECTED, striking outward in a PYROTECHNIC display which MELTS
THE LASER PROJECTORS as Sonic SUPERSPINS down, disappearing through
the floor.

ROBOTNIK
is livid. Pounds his fists repeatedly.

ROBOTNIK
No! No! Impossible!

CUT TO:
INT. COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
Snively watches on the monitor as Robotnik disappears through the
FLOOR HATCH. MONITOR turns to WHITE NOISE.

SNIVELY
The fool should have listened to
me, but nooooooo.

WIPE TO:
EXT. GREAT UNKNOWN - LAVA POOLS - NIGHT
The LAVA POOLS from "Drood Henge". Uncle Chuck and Tails wait.
Tails tossing pebbles into one of the pools. Uncle Chuck looks up
as.. .

DULCY
drops into view from out of the clouds and flies TOWARD CAMERA on
"landing approach." Her wings wag back and forth as she tries to
level off. Sally, Antoine and Bunnie cling to her back. Antoine
covers his eyes.

ANTOINE
Sacre bleu-cheese!

SALLY
pats Dulcy on the shoulder.

SALLY
Straighten it out, Dulcy.

BUNNIE
Ya'll!! doin fine, Dulcy-
girl...little lower on the left wing...

DULCY'S
The ground TILTS from side to side, coming up fast. Uncle Chuck
and Tails scatter.

DULCY'S FACE
screws up in anticipation of pain.

DULCY
Ho, boy. This one is gonna hurt...

FROM SIDE - FOLLOWING
As Dulcy sets down on her kneepads and SKIDS across the ground,
kicking up dust. She turns around, looks at Sally. Big smile.

DULCY (CONT)
(brightly)
Wow! I did it!

SALLY
Watch where you're going, Dulcy!

DULCY
looks around and reacts as she PLOWS into one of the HOT SPRINGS,
DOUSING everyone on her back.

UNCLE CHUCK AND TAILS
run INTO SHOT as Sally and Bunnie jump down, then Antoine. But he
stumbles and flies into a hot spring.

ANTOINE
Ahhhhh! Big splash!

UNCLE CHUCK
Sally, where's Sonic?

SALLY
frowns, shakes her head.

SALLY
(sadly)
The other teams were captured.
He... he went in alone. He...
Sally turns, looks around as we hear Sonic's APPROACHING WHOOSH.

SONIC
skids INTO SHOT, trailing a cloud of debris and dust. The others
gather around him.

SALLY
Sonic, did you do it?

ANTOINE
You are making the big boom-boom?

TAILS
Cool, Sonic.

Sonic shakes his head.

SONIC
Didn't happen, guys.

Everyone's bummed. Antoine faints.

ANTOINE
(fainting GROAN)

Sally hugs Sonic.

SALLY
You did your best. Sonic.

TAILS
Now whatta we do?

SONIC
I dunno. Big Guy. I'm clueless.

UNCLE CHUCK
rubs his head, pacing.

UNCLE CHUCK
We can't give up. There must be a way.

SALLY
But, Uncle Chuck, whatever Robotnik
has covering the computer brain
seems indestructible.
Chuck stops, looks at theothers with an idea.

UNCLE CHUCK
There is still one possibility.

TAILS
What, Uncle Chuck?

UNCLE CHUCK
The Deep Power Stones.

SONIC
looks surprised.

SONIC
No-go, Unc. We only have one.
Robutt-nik's got the other.

UNCLE CHUCK
smiles, puts his hands on Sonic's shoulders.

UNCLE CHUCK
Not after you take it from him.

CUT TO:
EXT. STREET ACROSS FROM ROBOTNIK'S HQ - NIGHT
Quiet. Deserted. Sonic STREAKS INTO SHOT, SKIDS to a stop and
looks around.

SONIC'S POV
of the empty street. The wind blows some paper THROUGH SHOT.

SONIC (OS)
Cool. They're all at Doomsday.

WIDE
As Sonic BLASTS straight up the side of Robotnik's HQ.

CUT TO:
INT. ROBOTNIK'S WAR ROOM - NIGHT
It's empty. Monitors off, no indicator lights flashing.

SONIC
Let's pick up the pace, Nicole.

SONIC
taps his foot, drums his fingers as he holds Nicole in front of
ROBOTNIK'S SAFE. BLUE LIGHT BEAMS shoot out from Nicole, scanning
the ELECTRONIC LOCK (four READ-OUTS with FLASHING NUMBERS).
Sonic's fidgeting makes the BEAM unsteady.

NICOLE
Just chill. Sonic. You're stressin' me.
Sonic stops tapping, drumming. We hear BEEPS and CLICKS from Nicole.

ELECTRONIC LOCK
numbers begin to change with ANSWERING BEEPS until all four
displays read "0000". LOUD CLICK.

SONIC
reacts as safe swings open.

SONIC
Way past, Nicole!

Sonic rifles through the safe, flinging papers and disks until the
safe is empty.

SONIC (CONT)
Nothin'.

NICOLE
We keep looking, right?

SONIC
Right.

Sonic ZIPS OUT OF SHOT.

ROBOTNIK'S DESK
near the door. The DEEP POWER STONE (held in a SCULPTURE) is
holding down papers. Sonic STREAKS THROUGH SHOT past desk,
ruffling the papers. A beat and he SKIDS BACKWARDS INTO SHOT. He grins.

SONIC (CONT)
Way cool.

He grabs it and ROARS OFF as we...

WIPE TO:
EXT. GREAT UNKNOWN - LAVA POOLS - NIGHT
Uncle Chuck and Sally huddle over a LAPTOP ELECTRONIC TABLET which
is filled with GLOWING LINE DRAWINGS showing various ANGLES and
EQUATIONS.

SALLY
The Pod took a steep drop at
first...maybe 300 meters.

UNCLE CHUCK
That could be a problem.
We hear Sonic's APPROACHING WHOOSH. They turn as he SKIDS INTO
SHOT carrying the Deep Power Stone. His SLIPSTREAM blows their hair back.

SONIC
Got it.

He whips it out of his backpack, holds it up.

UNCLE CHUCK
grins as he sees the Stone. Sally takes it from Sonic.

SALLY
Sonic... we have a plan.

WIPE TO:
EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
We see the Doomsday Site looming in FAR BG. PAN DOWN as Sonic and
Sally STREAK INTO SHOT.

NICOLE
Chill here. Sonic.
Sonic SKIDS to a stop. Nicole BEEPS.

NICOLE(CONT)
You're right above it.

SALLY
releases her grip on Sonic.

SALLY
Supply check. Metal-eating capsules.

Sonic pulls the last METAL-EATING LIQUID CAPSULE out of his
backpack, hands it to Sally.

SONIC
Check.

SALLY
Deep power stones.

Sonic pulls both DEEP POWER STONES out.

SONIC
Check.

Sally takes one of them, puts it in her pack, hands the capsule
back to Sonic.

SALLY
Okay, now remember, once we connect
the stones, we have...

SONIC
(nods) Thirty seconds. Check. (realizes)
Whoa, Sal. What's this "we" stuff?
Sally leans close, determined look.

SALLY
Because I'm going with you.

SONIC
No way, Sal... You...
Sally puts a hand over his mouth.

SALLY
(interrupts)
We're in this together. Sonic
Hedgehog, however it ends. Check?
She releases her hand.

SONIC
Check. (pause) Hold on.
Sonic grabs Sally and SUPERSPINS into the ground as we...

CUT TO:
INT. DOOMSDAY TUNNEL - NIGHT
It's dark with METAL RIBBED SIDES. We hear Sonic's SUPERSPIN
APPROACHING, then Sonic and Sally spin through the tunnel's metal
roof and drop to floor. Sally switches on a flashlight, plays it
on the sides.

SALLY
Okay, now, we... (breaks off) Ohmygosh! A Pod!

We hear a POD APPROACHING, FAST.

SONIC
whips out the last METAL-EATING CAPSULE just as the POD bears down
on them, FILLING THE TUNNEL. Sonic heaves it and the Pod VAPORIZES
in a cloud of GREEN SMOKE that rolls over them. We see Sally's
flashlight through the smoke.

SONIC/SALLY
(coughing)

SALLY
One minute before the next one.

SONIC
Piece of cake. Hang on!
They streak up the tunnel as we...
WIPE TO:

INT. BRAIN ROOM - NIGHT
The place is trashed, floor irregular from melting. LASER
PROJECTORS now METAL LUMPS, but the BRAIN still pulses with life.
Sonic and Sally emerge from the shadows, each holding a DEEP POWER
STONE. Sally shakes her head.

SALLY
But we have no idea how big the explosion will be.
What if it destroys more than Doomsday?

SONIC
Like what?

SALLY
Like the whole planet.

Sonic paces.

SONIC
Not cool. But what else... (snaps his fingers)
What if we put 'em together the other way?

SALLY
Incredible power. Yes. It could work.

CAMERA PANS to SPY SPHERE as it silently moves into place behind
them, the LENS GLOWING RED.

SALLY
Nicole, analysis please...

CUT TO:
INT. TEMP COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
Snively checks monitors as Sonic and Sally appear.

SNIVELY
Sir! Sir! The Hedgehog is back.

ROBOTNIK
swirls around in his chair, glares up at the monitor.

ROBOTNIK
How did they... (notices Deep Power Stones)
The Stones! Robotnik leaps to his feet, slaps a button on the console.
All Swat-Bots! Deploy to the Brain Room! Bring me the Stones!

CUT TO:
INT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - BRAIN ROOM - NIGHT
Sonic and Sally listen to Nicole.

NICOLE
...the power is identical to that
of Power Rings, but greatly amplified.

SALLY
Greatly amplified? How much?

NICOLE
Ten thousand times. It could prove harmful.

SONIC
taps his foot, drums his fingers.

SONIC
How bad?

NICOLE
You may not survive.

SONIC
That's bad. (looks at Sally)
Gotta go for it, Sal.

SALLY
Yes.

He holds out his hand for their "handshake",
but she quickly hugs him instead.

SONIC (CONT)
Enough huggin' already.

SWAT-BOT #1
Freeze, intruders.
They wheel around.

Swat-Bots swarm through the skylight and through the door.

SWAT-BOT #1 (CONT)
Turn over the power Stones.

SONIC
grins, holds up his Stone. Sal grins, holds up the other.

SONIC
Come and get 'em, Swat-Butts!

They press the WAVY EDGES of the two stones together. WHITE LIGHT
PULSES from the Stones ad the joining edges disappear. HUGE GLOW
OF WHITE LIGHT FILLS SHOT. It quickly clears and we see Sonic and
Sally BOTTOM-LIT in white light, VIBRATING.

SONIC
Whoa....

SALLY
So this is what Power Rings feel
like. Wow! Let's do it to it!

SONIC AND SALLY
make a LIGHTNING-FAST PASS around the room, their WHITE LIGHT
STREAMING BEHIND like a comet's tail. The Swat-Bot FLY APART.
PULL BACK as Sonic and Sally RACE OUT DOOR.

EXT. DOOMSDAY MACHINE - NIGHT
TWIN STREAKS OF LIGHT streak in and out at INCREDIBLE SPEED. The
DOOMSDAY MACHINE starts to GLOW. The GROUND RUMBLES and SHAKES.

CUT TO:
INT. COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT
The room SHAKES. Robotnik reacts, scared shitless! Snively
stares, transfixed at monitor.

FOLLOW as Robotnik races to a wall and slaps a panel. Wall slides
back, revealing a "ROBOTNIK-SIZED" escape POD. He opens door and
climbs inside. Just before he closes it, Snively runs INTO SHOT.

SNIVELY
Sir...?

ROBOTNIK
Sorry, Snively. Only room for one.

Door HISSES shut and the ESCAPE POD launches UP AND OUT.

SNIVELY
glares after him.
You don't give me enough credit..."Sir".

He hits a switch. A HOLE IRISES OPEN in the floor, revealing a
small elevator. Snively descends and the HOLE IRISES SHUT behind
him as we...

CUT TO:
EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
TWIN STREAKS OF LIGHT continue to CRISS-CROSS inside the Doomsday
Machine. It GLOWS BRIGHTER AND BRIGHTER as we see Robotnik's
ESCAPE POD streaking UPWARDS.

INT. BRAIN ROOM - NIGHT
LOOKING DOWN SKYLIGHT as the WHITE GLOW grows BRIGHTER. A BLAST OF
WHITE LIGHT shoots UP THROUGH THE BRAIN, VAPORIZING IT. WHITE
LIGHT FILLS SHOT.

EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
WHITE LIGHT SHOOTS STRAIGHT UP from BRAIN ROOM reaching HIGH INTO
SKY.

ON ROBOTNIK'S POD
As it's LOST IN GLOW from VERTICAL WHITE BEAM.

ROBOTNIK
(loud scream)

WIDE ON SITE
Two WHITE STREAKS EMERGE FROM Doomsday Machine seconds before it
vaporizes. The STREAKS ENTER COMMAND CENTER. WHITE LIGHT LEAKS
FROM ALL WINDOWS. They streak back out.

ON COMMAND CENTER
GLOWING WHITE. Lupe, Ari, Polio and Dirk run out, jump into a
Hover-Unit. Blast off.

WIDE
As COMMAND CENTER VAPORIZES just as the Hover-Unit blasts OS.
WHITE STREAKS CRISS-CROSS ENTIRE SITE. WHITE LIGHT GLOWS LIKE A
DOME AS ALL STRUCTURES VAPORIZE. GLOWING STREAKS race to NEARBY
HILLSIDE AND STOP. We see TWO GLOWING FIGURES.

SONIC AND SALLY
GLOW BRIGHTLY as they watch the GLOW FADE from the Doomsday Site,
leaving the place flat and barren. Sally's fur is standing on end.
Sonic's spikes are glowing like fiber optics.

SONIC
All right! We got Robutt-nik!

SALLY
I don't believe it. We actually did it!

They HIGH-FIVE, creating an EXPLOSION OF WHITE LIGHT.

SALLY
grins at Sonic. PUSH IN CLOSER.

SALLY (CONT)
Wow. If a high-five does that...
(vampy smile-seductive tone)
What happens with a kiss?

Sonic's eyes widen. He puts his hands up.

SONIC
Whoa. I don't! wanna find out!
Outta here.

He STREAKS AWAY. Sally...

SALLY
(giggles)
...and streaks after him. CRANE UP TO HIGH DOWN ANGLE as the two
streaks race after one another. In the distance, they finally
merge. HUGE WHITE LIGHT that illuminates the Great Unknown as
we. . .

DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. KNOTHOLE - MEETING PLACE - NIGHT
Sonic and Sally (both back to normal) watch from the Meeting Place
as below, all the FREEDOM FIGHTERS celebrate, LAUGHING and
SHOUTING.

FREEDOM FIGHTERS
(near distant celebration walla)

SONIC
looks depressed.

SONIC
No more Robutttnik. Too bad.

Sally's head whips around. She's amazed.

SALLY
What? Too bad?

SONIC
Hey...without villains, what do we heroes do?

SALLY
tears of compassion well up in her eyes. She manages a smile and
we PULL BACK as she puts her head on Sonic's shoulder...

SALLY
(softly)
You'll always be my hero.
As Sonic puts his arm around her...

CUT TO:
EXT. DOOMSDAY SITE - NIGHT
Small rubble and Swat-Bot parts all around. A PILE OF RUBBLE MOVES
as a HOLE IRISES open and Snively climbs up. He puts his hands on
his hips, looks around.

SNIVELY
Now, it's my turn.
